A few months ago I impulse-purchased a jelly roll (40 strips 2 1/2″ wide) of Laurel Burch prints from Jordan Fabrics in Grants Pass, OR. The jelly roll featured three basic colors, which my eye read as sun (yellows and oranges), sea (blues), and sand (tan).
It was so pretty, and so summery, I couldn’t resist it. It sat on my desktop for many weeks while I mused over what to do with it. The problem was that I liked that trio of colors, but most quilt patterns are written for colors in multiples of 2. Not a lot of patterns that involve color groups of 3.
Then I happened to come across this super easy tutorial for making granny square quilt blocks. And look – three colors!
I had to drop all my other quilting projects and start this one immediately. (Ain’t that always the way.)
